Fellow speaker,
In order for your words to have impact, they need to be short and tight. If you want to create more impact in your speech, consider shortening your sentences. For example, if you have a sentence which reads, "All politics is important to people, in what they do and think, and helps them in their thinking and doing", consider shortening it. Take out first all the things that repeat themselves in the phrase: "All politics is important to people, in what they do and think." Next take out the modifying phrases: "All politics is important to people." Now shorten the phrase: "Politics is important to people." And shorten it even more: "Politics is people." And you have a short sentence that captures the ear of your listeners.
Shortly,
Tim
