Cut-up

Fellow speaker,

Sometimes it helps to "polish" your speech by cutting up your phrases or sentences.  Break a phrase or sentence down into smaller parts.  Then combine the phrase or sentence in a different order and see how it can work better in the speech.

For example if you have a sentence in a speech that says, "All politics is personal because people have strong opinions about their ideas and beliefs and show those beliefs in how they vote."  You can separate it into two parts:  "All politics is personal" and everything after "because".  The "All politics is personal" is a strong statement, so focus on that.  The "All" is unnecessary, so eliminate that.  And you are left with:  "Politics is personal", a strong, powerful statement that attracts attention.

Cutting,

Tim
