Move it and groove it

Fellow speaker,

World Champion Speaker Craig Valentine has a few tips to help you move better on stage:
  • Move when your story indicates - If you are telling a story where you are standing in line, you don't need to move. But if you are telling a story about how you moved from Dallas Texas to Boston Massachusetts, move on stage to indicate the change in location of your story.
  • Move along a timeline - When talking about time, move along the stage in a forward direction along your timeline. In the US this indicates moving from your audience's left to your audience's right. Outside of the US the natural movement of time may look different, depending on the culture you are talking to. Research to find the most appropriate movement to indicate moving in time for the culture you are talking to.
  • Move only as much as you need to move - Keep your movements onstage as small and focused as possible. Only move when you have a need to move and only move as far as your speech situation indicates.
Moving,
