Jeremy Donovan's study of TED talks suggests you can use three elements to build contrast in your slide presentation:
- Font - use one font per presentation (Helvetica or Arial are the most common) - build in variety in the font through use of formatting the font (e.g., underline, bold, italic, etc.)
- Color - vary the lightness and darkness or the brightness and dullness - use no more than 5 colors in a presentation
- Placement - place the images/text in different places on the page
