How to use your OAR

Fellow speaker,

World Champion Speaker Craig Valentine says the goal of the speaker is to get the audience to reflect on the speech and suggests a three step process:
  1. Object out of your speech - take an object out of your speech that you want to talk to the audience about (e.g., if your speech has a scale in it, focus on the scale; if you use a story about being on stage, focus on the stage)
  2. Ask the audience about the object (e.g, "What's your scale?", "What stage are you stepping on at least 1000 times?")
  3. Reason for audience to embrace the object - give the audience a reason to start using the object in their lives (e.g., if you want to know how well you are doing, you need to use a scale; if you want to get better at something, you need to step on your mental stage and rehearse it in your mind)
Oaring,

Tim
