Fellow speaker,
When you are preparing to give a speech, it is easy to get set in your own views. One way to "step out" of this "comfort zone" is to play the "yes and..." game with a friend. Create a situation and a relationship then have a conversation with your friend (with you both in character of the situation and relationship) using "Yes and...". For example, create a situation where you are a bank teller, your friend is a customer, and you and your friend are directly related. Your friend says, "Hi Bob, I want to withdraw some money", and you say, "Hi Ted, of course you can and how would like a free toaster to go with that?", and your friend says, "Yes, that would be great and..." Continue with each person adding something extra to the conversation each time. Continue the game as long as possible and time how long the game goes on.
Anding,
Tim
