- Hero - does most of the action - has a goal the audience can relate to
- Villain - keeps the hero from achieving their goal
- Messenger - shows up early, gives hero a challenge and moves the hero towards change
- Trickster - provides humor and also moves hero to change
- Mentor - teaches the hero
- Gatekeeper - tests your hero and blocks further progress until hero until hero passes test
- Shapeshifter - creates doubts in hero - builds tension and suspense in your story
