Professional speaker Judy Carter suggests when someone asks you "How much do you charge to give a speech?" (and you know the amount you charge):
- Get them talking about their event so you understand their needs
- Talk about how your speech matches their needs
- Quote your price
- Shut up and wait
- If they turn you down and they are within 25% of your price, look for ways to modify either what they provide you or give you more value in exchange for accepting the lower price
- If they still won't budge on the price, take a night to think it over
- If you do accept the lower price, get the client to agree not to disclose the discounted price
