On the slant

Fellow speaker,

According to Speaker Rich Hopkins, walking on an angle onstage both softens your stage movement while making your movements more interesting. In order to move a significant distance onstage, you will need to move further than you would if you were simply moving left and right (from the audience's point of view). This extra time gives you more time to think and will automatically slow down your stage movements (from the audience's point of view).
