According to Speaker Rich Hopkins, when marketing yourself to others, focus on understanding their needs first, then let them know how their needs match with your speaking:
- Experience - show how you have deep experience in the subject they are interested in - reference previous speaking engagements (be careful about mentioning rival companies)
- Entertain and educate - make it clear how your speech will be a fun, interesting experience where people will gain deep, transformative knowledge
- Talk to 3-4 people - ask to talk to a few people at the company so you get to know the culture and the people
- More than a speech - in addition, offer them your book(s), breakout sessions, follow-ups, etc.
