Get involved

Fellow speaker,

Author Jeremy Donovan's in depth study of World Champion speakers suggests getting the audience actively involved will increase audience interest in your speech.  One simple way to get them involved is "call and response" where you call out one word and you get your audience to call out the same word (e.g., "The first thing you'll learn today is responsibility.  What's the first thing you'll learn today? [gesturing to audience] [audience: "Responsibility."]")
