Presenter coach Nancy Duarte suggests a three step process to create a message:

1. Create topics - create a list of things that relate directly to what you want to talk about
2. Create ideas - think of 3 to 4 ideas for each topic you created
3. Develop your message - develop a one sentence message that combines the topic with the ideas you created
