- Go against the grain - say something that you know most people in the audience will agree with, then disagree with it
- Ask many questions - ask several questions in a row, making sure each question makes the audience think about the answer
- Catchy comment - say something that is short, interesting, and gets the audience's thinking (e.g., business expert Peter Drucker's comment "Culture eats strategy for breakfast"
