Professional speaker Patricia Fripp suggests you if you are going to read from a magazine/book/etc. to your audience, you prepare in advance:
- Mark the place with the quote with a post-it so you can easily find it
- Make the quote easy to read: copy and enlarge the quote so you can easily read it while you hold the magazine, or put it up on Powerpoint so everyone at the event can read it themselves
- Practice repeatedly saying the quote during your speech so it flows naturally into and out of your speech
