According to professional speaker Patricia Fripp, you can use a callback to remind the audience of something they have already heard:
- Established metaphor - if you have used a metaphor in your speech, you can callback to that metaphor (e.g., "I tripped over myself again. This time...")
- Common knowledge - especially effective in corporate presentations when you callback to widely known corporate values, mission, phrases, annual report, etc.
- Listen for funny lines that other speakers say and then repeat them in your speech
