- "Have you ever had the feeling that..." - research the common feelings of the audience before using this opening - tap into what audience is thinking
- "I know what you are thinking..." - research audience to find out what common ideas are
- "To put this report in historical perspective..." - group presentation to management, employees, or clients - can be used to transition from previous speaker's content and point
