I know something you don't know...

Fellow speaker,

To create audience interest in your story, withhold information either:
  • From the audience - this creates a surprise for the audience
  • From the character in your story - this creates a surprise for your character and suspense for the audience (since they know something the character doesn't)
An example of a surprise for the audience: tell a story about Lisa and then at the end reveal that Lisa is a dog.   An example of a surprise for the character and suspense for the audience: the character in your story is going into a dark room that they think is empty but actually has a killer there waiting for them.

Suspenseful,
