World Champion Speaker Craig Valentine suggests five ways of connecting directly with a member of your audience:
- Laugh at them - dangerous but it gets a strong connection!
- Give a story about that person
- Tell what the person is speaking in dialogue (e.g., "Bob here is thinking...")
- Talk to them directly (e.g., "What I realized, Frank, is...")
- Ask them a question (e.g., "Frank, what do you think I did when I got out of that house?")
