Comedian Steve Rowe suggests this simple way to create humor:
- Write out several serious sentences about something you care about
- After each sentence write out a "smart alecky" remark making fun of the point of the sentence
- Read the sentence and the "smart alecky" remark out loud and see if you have any reactions to these remarks
- Write down these reactions after the remark
The "smart alecky" remark is called a "punch line" and the comments on the "smart alecky" remark are called "taglines".
