To get the audience interested in what you are saying act as if it is a secret. Look around you and behind you a bit before you tell the audience in a hushed voice that indicates "I've got something a secret to tell you." You don't have to say that you have a secret: let the tone of your voice do all the work. This "one to one/just between us" tone will get the audience interested in hearing the your story.
