Fellow speaker,
When using a microphone, always carry fresh backup batteries (e.g., 9V, AA, AAA, etc.). Ask the soundman to put in the fresh batteries for your session. This will make sure the microphone doesn't go dead in the middle of your speech. And always make sure you have some sort of backup microphone prepared in case the microphone you are using dies for some other reason than the batteries.
