Fellow speaker,
Don't get "trapped" behind the lectern. Position yourself so you can easily move away from the lectern. If you need your speech notes, position them in a way that you can clearly see them when not behind the lectern. Glance over at the notes from time to time but stay away from the back of the lectern.
