Where do you want your audience's attention to be focused? If you are telling stories maybe you want the audience to focus their attention inwardly on their own life. If you are presenting detailed descriptions of complex processes maybe you want the audience to focus on the detailed presentation in front of them. If you are giving an overview of how something works maybe you want the audience to sometimes be focused on the presentation and sometimes focused inwardly on how they will use that method in their life. Understanding where you the speaker want the audience to focus determines how you present to the audience.
