Fellow speaker,
To change the entire feeling of your story, change the words that describe the scene. "He raced over to help her" has a different feeling from "He walked over to help her" has a different feeling from "He strolled over to help her" has a different feeling from "He jumped up to help her" etc. Keep in mind the way you "set the scene" in your stories and use the scene setting as a way to create a picture in the audience's mind.
Scenic,
