Fellow speaker,
To tell an effective story, make sure you have answered all the questions in your audience's mind. Record your story as you practice it at home. Then play it back, and stop after the opening of the speech. Ask "What is the audience thinking?" Play back your recording and see if the next part of the tape answers any questions in the audience mind. Continue this you have learned to each part of your story, and asked about the audience's thoughts for each point. Now ask "Is there any question in the audience's mind I haven't answered?" If there is, redo your story, answering those questions. Give the speech to a friend and ask them at the end, "Are there any unanswered questions in your mind about this story?"
Start and stop,
Tim
