Fellow speaker,
When you are speaking, make sure there is nothing blocking you from the audience. If possible, stand to the side of the lectern, or, better yet, avoid the lectern completely by memorizing your speech. Having nothing between you and the audience makes you look "open" and helps you "connect" with your audience.
